Improve mental health & wellbeing in your community

Funded training to deliver socially inclusive yoga

We are training practitioners to deliver to three key vulnerable communities at risk of social isolation, mental health challenges or who face barriers to accessing the benefits of yoga and mindfulness - children, pregnant mums and new mums in Norfolk. Each Yoga in Action programme is part of a 6 week training and mentorship project and delivered via the ZenMuma and ZenKids programmes, funded by the National Lottery Community fund. Join us in making positive change today.

Yoga      for kids

Training dates: 1st, 2nd, 3rd October 2024

Funded training to share the transformative power of yoga with children and young people in your school or community. In the last three years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%, a problem exacerbated as a result of the pandemic. However, yoga has a positive effect on stress, physical and mental wellbeing for children; it is now more important than ever to put yoga in action to strengthen the wellbeing of the next generation. Train with us and make change today.

Supporting  local
pregnant mothers

Training dates: 17th, 18th, 19th Sept 2024

New and pregnant mothers are at greater risk of social isolation, loneliness and poor physical and mental health, particularly those who have experienced trauma and abuse. Learn how you can support mothers in your existing community to build their physical & mental wellbeing and resilience through yoga, and share these benefits with mothers that otherwise might not be able to access it. Put yoga in action today and train to be a facilitator, for free.

Empowering local
  new mums

Training dates: 24th, 25th, 26th Sept 2024

Bring the benefits of yoga to new mums in the postnatal period, a critical and vulnerable time for maternal mental health. Yoga has demonstrated a notable positive impact during this time, especially on postnatal mood, which is why we are creating safe, inclusive spaces for mums to come together and connect with themselves, others and their babies through yoga and mindfulness . Train with us to share the positivity in your local community today.

  • You will be trained for FREE in either pregnancy yoga, mum and baby yoga and massage, or kids yoga tots to tweens. These trainings usually cost £550 to £750 per certification. At the end of the training each practitioner will be a certified 'Yoga in Action Teacher' in the chosen discipline. You will need to obtain your own insurance - we will advise on this during the training. To be certified the trainee needs to attend the 3 day in person training in Norfolk. They also need to compete five short essays, around 600-1000 words each, on aspects of the training (they will be fully supported on this). In total the training, including contact training and the essays, will take 45 hours.

  • The delivery of the community 6 week ‘Yoga in Action’ programme must be between 4th November - 13th December. It must be called ‘Yoga in Action - Baby Yoga’, or ‘Yoga in Action - Pregnancy Yoga’ etc.

This delivery of the 6 week programme must be to your local community hub and must be to a local vulnerable group. You are responsible for setting up an appropriate community hub group to deliver to.

This group must consist of a vulnerable community that wouldn’t normally be able to access yoga and wellbeing due to lack of personal funds. We hope there will be 10 - 20 attendees in each 6 week group. We recommend you ‘over-book’ as often participants drop out at the last minute and we really want the funding to reach the community it aims to help support.

  • We are expecting that you either provide this 6 week delivery as a volunteer as a 'fair exchange’ (an act of what in yoga we call ‘Asteya’) in return for the free training and certification, or perhaps you will be funded by a local community hub, school, charity or CIC you are in partnership with.

It is up to you whether you charge participants to attend your 6 week programme, or, of course, you can offer these ‘Yoga in Action’ programmes for free to your community.

The cost you might normally charge for classes is £45 per 6 week mum/baby yoga class, £30 per 6 week kids yoga class & £60 per 6 week pregnancy yoga class. We understand that sometimes charging a nominal amount encourages people to attend these programmes, so this is up to you, but we expect there to be an appropriate discount to the community group.

If you do charge a nominal amount we expect the fee to go towards the next round of practitioner funding from ‘Yoga in Action’, so we will invoice you for the fee. This is what we call Karma yoga, which means ‘Yoga in Action’.

  • The 'Yoga in Action' Training takes place at the Norwich Wellbeing Centre.

The 6 week delivery programme is as follows:

Mum/ baby yoga is a 60 min class x one a week for 6 weeks.

Pregnancy yoga is a 75 min class x one a week for 6 weeks.

Kids yoga is a 60 min class x one a week for 6 weeks.

We have found that offering a free biscuit and a cup of tea or squash after the class is great for community bonding so we recommend that you perhaps add some time to the above classes for that kind of community sharing. Community is at the essence of everything we do.

  • You will be mentored weekly through this process and all programme content will be learnt on the training. Throughout the process you must encourage weekly monitoring and evaluation from the participants, this will be in the form of simple tick box evaluations at the end of this class. You must send this data back to us. We will discuss the handling of this nearer the time in accordance with data rules etc. This data goes to the National Lottery so we can hopefully get more funding to do more good. It will also be used in the public domain. Again, we will assist with this.
